Background
Keswick Rugby Club has come a long way since its first match in 1879. The Club has continued to develop over the years, with an ever-increasing number and diversity of players, enjoying successes on the pitch, whilst developing an important relationship with the community.
The current Clubhouse, which was built in 1958 with local help, was designed to cater for one senior men’s team; now there are 16 different teams catering for 3- to 68-year-olds. So, despite some modifications over the years, it has now come to a point where the 180+ senior men and women players, together with the 200+ junior boys and girls, have outgrown the building, and desperately need a new, suitably designed, facility.
The Club currently supports its extensive rugby programme through careful financial planning and sound management. It also benefits from the continuing support of local businesses, and successfully organises many fundraising events, including the ever-popular Keswick Beer Festival and Half Marathon, which rely on the many Club and community volunteers.
Aims
The aim for the future is to be a forward looking and progressive club, whilst retaining our long-standing values and objectives:
Our Mission
To develop a ‘Game Plan’ for the community of Keswick, to improve playing standards whilst fostering a lifetime of involvement in rugby.
Our Vision
As a community asset we aim to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and friendly environment for everyone; providing a facility for yoga, pilates, first aid classes and other community groups such as coffee mornings. We aim to develop a culture where every contribution is nurtured, valued, and respected – no matter how big or small. The new function room would be a perfect venue for wedding receptions, parties and conferences.
Project
Keswick Rugby Club aims to expand its success with an ambitious project known as the ‘Big Build’ by constructing a new £2.2M club house above the flood levels, providing a modern venue and legacy for future generations of the community which everyone can enjoy in the years to come.
Planning Permission was granted Jan 2024, and work started in May 2024. Everyone involved is working tirelessly to ensure the project is delivered by March 2025, but we still need your help to do it……
